Student and Faculty Services

The AVC assists clients with technology implementation for courses, and research. Our staff has worked with numerous faculty on course projects for their students and/or presentations of AVC technologies and projects. Some technologies that the AVC has helped faculty integrate in their course include Virtual Reality, Visualization, AI, and 3D Printing.

For example: the AVC worked with Geology students throughout the semester in groups of three, meeting 3 times with each group to develop 3D simulations of earthquakes, flooding, volcanoes tornadoes, and related geological activity, for their final projects.

The AVC worked with Engineering students to help them develop their final projects for a Modern Biotechnologies course. Projects ranged from 3D printed prosthetics to drug delivery simulations, and interactive training application prototypes.

The AVC staff has also given presentations and demonstrations for various courses including in the College of Business, College of art, Honors College, College of Engineering, College of Arts & Science, and College of Pharmacy.

Students or faculty needing assistance are encouraged to contact the Advanced Visualization Center.

If you would like the AVC staff to give a demonstration or presentation, please contact us. Presentations can be given at the AVC facilities and/or your locations.

Grants

We are available to consult and develop applications for research grants. Typically, we are involved in the technology portion of the grant proposal process. For more information on how we can assist with grants, and/or to request a Letter of Support, contact Howard Kaplan, Associate Director

Private Services (External to the USF System)

The AVC has given training and provided services on numerous projects for entities outside of USF, including: various research departments at the James A. Haley Veterans Affairs, MacDill Air Force Base, City of Clearwater, and other organizations and business.

External parties interested in the services provided by the Advanced Visualization Center should contact Howard Kaplan to determine if we can accommodate your project requirements.

Citing the AVC

When using the Advanced Visualization services students, faculty, and researchers should cite the AVC properly.

The recognition of the AVC services used to perform research is important for acquiring continued funding for the next generation of hardware, support services, and our research and development activities in advanced technology integration at USF.

At minimum, a citation should include:

Advanced Visualization Center (AVC), Research Technologies (RT) at University of South Florida

Policies

Services provided by the AVC for course differ from services provide for funded research projects. Most course related services are given free of charge, whereas research projects typically require funding as they are invoiced or are part of a grant that includes AVC staff and/or services. If the AVC is not on a grant and your are requesting services, an Invoice and/or Memo-of-Understanding will be created and communicated to you and/or your department.
